GDI solicits sponsorships from our business associates to help us ensure we produce the greatest "Celebrating Our Heritage" Extravaganza ever. It is the assistance of our partners, be they large or small, friends or family, that will help us achieve our mission and goals of the "Heritage Ball." Read more...

GDI Logo 150Lady VP Cora O'Kelley was nestled in her home office with President Donald Blount and GDI's team member Devan Powe working on last minute Heritage Ball 2010 details. Her cell phone rang. The caller said something like this, "Hello Cora, this is Monte. I am troubled by the news of Haiti and I know Good Deeds International is about providing service to others, right?" Lady VP responded, "Yes, of course and we share your devastation." Monte went on to say, "I want to challenge GDI to raise $500 for the victims in Haiti and I will match it dollar for dollar from my own personal money—I may be able to raise even more." An hour later, Monte phoned her again and advised he had raised $2,000 and now the challenge had been increased. (Monte Fowler is an Atlanta stepper and Vice President of Operations of Starr and Associates. He and his President, Jamal Starr, are each willing to match up to a $1000 donation to this cause.)

GDI team members had already taken action to prepare to aide in this disastrous situation—and with our initial donation of $500, the ball began to roll uphill to meet Monte's challenge to raise money to help our people in Haiti. What a catastrophe…

We knew we could not do this alone. We also knew we have access to a lot of caring friends, family and associates--that is why we are reaching out to you and others in the community. Let's join forces to raise as much relief money as we can in the shortest time period ever to provide assistance to the Haitians earthquake victims.

With an estimated 50,000 people dead, a city in ruins and an estimated 3 million in need, it seems like such an impossible, unimaginable, hopeless calamity. It is not hopeless though. With assistance of all kinds from many, many people who care and a lot of prayer for God's grace, mercy and blessings, we can make a difference.

GDI has done its due diligence on reputable organizations to make donations and have decided to send our donations through UNICEF. We are cognizant of abuse of these types situations and understand the importance of selecting the right organization to partner. UNICEF is working in over 150 countries and provides children with health care, clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and more. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF supports UNICEF's work through fundraising, advocacy, and education in the United States. UNICEF has been on the ground in Haiti since 1949. UNICEF Haiti staff have been working nonstop since the disaster. But the needs are overwhelming. UNICEF is rushing supplies and teams of experts to the region to join the relief effort.

On Thursday, January 14, a cargo plane landed with $500,000 worth of supplies including tarps and tents for much-needed temporary shelter. It also included water purification tablets and oral rehydration salts which will help combat the very deadly diarrheal diseases that prey on vulnerable children and their families in the wake of natural disasters like this.

100% of your donation will go to fund relief efforts in Haiti.

We look forward to your quick response and support and will keep you posted on all of our progress. We will be presenting our first check to the local Atlanta UNICEF office early next week - so Act Today! The campaign will continue to run until at least throughout February, with further emphasis and followup during the Heritage Ball. Thank you for all your support!
