Good Deeds International (GDI), LLC, has formed a new relationship with The Andrew and Walter Young Family Southwest YMCA. Their short and long term goals are to help enhance the Mission of this community minded organization, both locally and nationally.
The Andrew and Walter Young Family Southwest YMCA was named for Andrew Jackson Young, Jr., American politician, diplomat and pastor from Georgia who served as Mayor of Atlanta, a Congressman from the 5th district and the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, and supporter and friend of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his brother, Walter Young, who has been a prominent member of the southwest community for many years. Like his father, Andrew Jackson Young, Sr., Walter is a dentist whose practice is located near The Andrew and Walter Young Family Southwest YMCA.
We will start our new partnership by providing volunteer services with our first project slated to be a “Yard Sale.” The YMCA has countless donated items at their location. A team of us will get together and separate and price all the items to get them ready for the yard sale. The following week, we will be onsite conducting the yard sale for the YMCA, with all proceeds going back to the YMCA. It will be a family affair with food, fun and fellowship.
GDI plans to get other volunteers to help them as well and will open the invitation to other Steppin’ groups and volunteers. Not only will this be a great partnership opportunity for GDI and the YMCA, but they are also looking to make this a great partnership opportunity with their fellow steppers. We are sure, as a team, this could be a very successful community outreach event.
Other initiatives include membership drive telethons, working with the YMCA’s Senior Citizens clients once or twice a week, and long range plans are to become active in their many youth programs, such as tutoring, literacy action, coaching, and computer training. This will be another venture that will be opened to others who have specific skill sets and are willing to give of their time and talents to help our inner city youth.
The opportunities at the Andrew & Walter Young Family Southwest YMCA are countless. GDI looks forward to growing and fostering their relationship with the YMCA here in Atlanta and across the nation.
