
Devan is the devoted husband to Cheryl "Sugar Foot" Powe and father of three beautiful girls (Maya, Skylar, and DeVanni), was born and raised in Chicago. He moved to Atlanta after meeting Cheryl, knowing that this was the one and after pursuing her, they were married in 2003. He graduated from St. Rita High School and later received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from The University of Alabama.
Devan served his country by joining the United Stated Marines (Reserves) in 1987, receiving an honorable discharge in 1993. A case manager by trade, Devan continues to pursue the social sciences. Music has always been a part of his life, from Sam Cook to The Roots, from Jazz to R&B, and from Disco to Reggae. He, his wife and Kimberly Davis were involved in Steppin' Out and later formed True Passion Steppers. As time passed, Devan's individual passion emerged--music. Devan attributes his desire to become a DJ to the influence of Cisco, DJ Mellow Khris, DJ Calvin (Chicago) and DJ Cox, and DJ Binky (Atlanta). The Iceman materialized. This is a significant strength that he brings to the Good Deeds International organization and currently serves as the Sound Engineer/Coordinator. His best attribute is his love of cooking.
He lends his talents in cooking, displaying Southern hospitality for out of town guests. Devan has a long history in the Steppin' Community that dates back to 1987, from Mr. Ricky's Chic Rick House, End of the Rainbow, The Clique, The Taste, Nicole's, to name a few. Devan's personal steppin resume' includes assistance in the creation of the first instructional Steppin' video (1993), appearances in the movies Love Jones (The Steppin Scene) and Tyler Perry's Family Reunion, as well as appearances in the Chicago TV show "Steppin' on Club 7," and "Can I Step With You?" Devan has imparted his steppin', choreography, and musical talents to vast numbers of winning competitive performances that culminated when he and Sugarfoot won the World's Largest Stepping Contest (Walkers Category).
Devan continues to teach Steppin' and DJ in Atlanta and around the country, with his wife and his "True Passion" being the love of the dance and the music that accompanies it.
